How much Sleep Do You Need?

How much Sleep Do You Need?

1

Oh don’t we need our sleep! Why we need it, why it can be hard to get, and how that affects everything from our daily routine to our income.. So, how much sleep is ideal? Studies show that people who sleep between 6.5 hr. and 7.5 hr. a night, live the longest. And people who sleep 8 hr. or more, or less than 6.5 hr., they don’t live quite as long.  The amount of sleep you need depends on various factors — especially your age.

Consider these general guidelines for different age groups:

Pregnancy. Changes in a woman’s body during early pregnancy can increase the need for sleep.

Aging. Older adults need about the same amount of sleep as younger adults. As you get older, however, your sleeping patterns might change. Older adults tend to sleep more lightly and for shorter time spans than do younger adults.

Previous sleep deprivation. If you’re sleep deprived, the amount of sleep you need increases.

Sleep quality. If your sleep is frequently interrupted or cut short, you’re not getting quality sleep. The quality of your sleep is just as important as the quantity.

Contrary to what is often thought, sleep is actually an active, organised process. How and when we sleep is governed by a number of factors. These include factors under our control, such as whether or not we are sleep deprived, and factors beyond our control.

But going to bed also has the factor that sleeping in a good bed with great bedlinen makes it all the more inviting! Also washing your bedlinen regularly is as important too. If your bed is uncomfortable uninviting them the chances are it’s a put off and not a very good nights sleep! Get your beautiful bedlinen and a GOOD nights sleep with The Fine Cotton Company!

The best Mothers Day Present is Sleep!

The best Mothers Day Present is Sleep!

mothers day

Mothers Day is just days away, and always the biggest conundrum is what to give her on this special day. Well probably one of the best things she would love is sleep! Mums work harder than anyone could imagine, whatever their age. And if she has young children the the day is packed with running around looking after them, and it can be hard physical work, with either staying at home with them when they are young or taking them to school.

Housework, shopping and cleaning all take their toll physically on her, and at the end of the day all you want to do is sleep! So if  she  like most new mums, a good night’s sleep seems as far away as the moon and stars in her weary mind. Sleep seems a million miles away when the kids are up all night, and so are mums and dads are also indeed up all night, and it’s just no fun any more. But a good night’s rest doesn’t have to be an illusion. a good nights sleep will have a huge effect on the quality of her life. So on Mothers Day, besides your thoughtful card and gorgeous big bouquet of flowers, present her with a cool morning off, just let her sleep late or take a sweet nap while you take the kids out to the park.

But, one thing is for certain, she will sleep much better if she has a decent bed and bedlinen. It will make such a difference to her all round wellbeing, with a good nights sleep in a beautiful bed think how happy she will be! Bedlinen might seem like an expensive Mother’s Day present, it certainly is something that she should be treated to at some point.

Tips for Making a Comfortable Bed

There’s nothing like the feeling of getting into a comfortable bed.

If you’ve just taken the BED MOT or if your bed has seen better days, it may be time to think about investing in a new one.

If you want to improve the comfort of your current bed, here are a few tips for doing just that.

Start with a deep filled mattress enhancer – brilliant for a comfortable night’s sleep. Try to use a natural, breathable one to prevent overheating.

Next put on the mattress protector in 100% cotton. This fits over the topper and should be changed regularly.

Then put on a good quality bottom sheet – if you’re using a fitted sheet, make sure it’s extra deep so it doesn’t ping off in the night. If you use a flat sheet, ensure that it’s tucked in properly so it doesn’t become wrinkled as you are sleeping.

As you spend between a quarter and a third of your life sleeping, it is important that you are as comfortable as possible.   Invest in a natural duvet to ensure it is breathable to prevent you overheating. There are many types including silk, goose down, alpaca and wool. Pick the correct Tog rating to suit you and the heat in your home.

Pillows need to be comfortable and breathable – pick a pillow that suits the way you sleep.

Cover your duvet and pillows with good quality, breathable natural duvet cover and pillowcases.

Have a light throw or blanket in a luxurious lambswool angora or cashmere to add an extra layer.

Create a Cosy Bedroom This Winter

There’s nothing like feeling tucked up in the warm when it’s cold and wet outside and a few luxurious touches can quickly turn your bedroom into a warm, cosy sanctuary.

Now that the clocks have gone back and the nights are drawing in it’s the perfect time to give your bedroom a winter makeover.

Cosy seasonal interiors bring to mind images of roaring log fires and while not all of us are lucky enough to have a working fireplace in our bedrooms, there are other ways to achieve a similar effect.

Try placing candles around the room on all the surfaces, at different heights, and watch as the lights flicker and the room glows. Our porcelain tealight holders have wintry and festive cut-out shapes to send light around your room, or try the tangled ceramic holders with heart, star and butterfly shapes for year-round use.

A set of fresh white organic cotton sheets can make your bed look more inviting than ever – you’ll just have to try to resist until bedtime. A snug new snow goose luxury down 13.5 tog duvet combined with a luxury mattress enhancer will make sure your bed is warm and cosy, no matter how far the temperature plunges.

Once the bed linen is in place, add a touch of luxury with a throw or a blanket – and nothing is softer than our lambswool angora blankets, which come in a range of colours. Go for winter white if you want to continue the crisp, clean effect from the bedding, or pick a soft shade such as mink or pale latte to add a touch of colour with a high class finish.

For those extra cold nights – or just because it’s a little treat – why not get a fabulously soft lamb’s wool hot water bottle? Our range of colours includes dove grey and biscuit, which will coordinate perfectly with your lambswool angora blanket. Tuck the hot water bottle under your duvet a short while before you get into bed to warm the cotton through, or place it under your pyjamas or nightdress so you’re warm as soon as you get into bed.

No matter what the size or design of your bedroom, a few simple touches like these can help you to make it a real haven from the elements so you always have somewhere to rest and relax, ready to face whatever the winter throws at you.
