Christmas Eve Traditions to Start This Year

With four sleeps to go, we’re sure the cards are written, the presents are wrapped, the food is ordered and you’re free to relax before the big day (ahem).   We’re probably all guilty of getting swept up in the Christmas chaos without stopping to enjoy the festivities.  So here are some fun ideas for Christmas Eve to help you to de-stress, make the most of family time and create special memories for years to come.

Change Your Bedding on Christmas Eve

There’s nothing like clean sheets to give you a fuzzy, feel good feeling. It may sound like ANOTHER thing to do on the busiest day of the year, but if you spend 20 minutes in the morning changing bedding over to freshly washed sheets and pillow cases, you’ll reap the rewards when you finally flop into bed.  Add a cosy cashmere or faux fur throw as an extra festive treat.

Open a Christmas Eve Box

This lovely tradition is growing amongst UK families and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Pack festive pyjamas, a favourite Christmas film, hot chocolate, hot water bottles and cosy blankets into a festive box and unwrap them on Christmas Eve.  Then snuggle down for a movie night together.  Sheer bliss.

Make it a Time for Giving

Why not spare a thought for those who are less fortunate this Christmas time?  There are lots of easy ways to get involved in charity work or even just let somebody know you care. Most supermarkets will have the facility to donate food or an extra gift as you shop.  You could give time to a homeless charity, bake some cookies and deliver them to an elderly neighbour or even invite them round for dinner. Christmas is a time for giving after all.

Attend a Christingle or Carol Service

Even if you’re not religious, attending a Christingle or Carol Service on Christmas Eve is a lovely way to set the mood for the big day.

Bedtime Customs

With all the excitement, getting the little ones into bed on Christmas Eve can be a struggle, so set some traditions that will help to signify that it’s time to get tucked up ready for Father Christmas to visit.

Prepare by tracking Santa via noradsanta.org to show that he’s on his way. As well as the traditional carrot and glass of milk, try making some reindeer food (glitter and oatmeal) to scatter in the garden, hang the stockings and then cuddle up to read a Christmas story to create calm before they drop off to sleep.

Create a Cosy Bedroom This Winter

There’s nothing like feeling tucked up in the warm when it’s cold and wet outside and a few luxurious touches can quickly turn your bedroom into a warm, cosy sanctuary.

Now that the clocks have gone back and the nights are drawing in it’s the perfect time to give your bedroom a winter makeover.

Cosy seasonal interiors bring to mind images of roaring log fires and while not all of us are lucky enough to have a working fireplace in our bedrooms, there are other ways to achieve a similar effect.

Try placing candles around the room on all the surfaces, at different heights, and watch as the lights flicker and the room glows. Our porcelain tealight holders have wintry and festive cut-out shapes to send light around your room, or try the tangled ceramic holders with heart, star and butterfly shapes for year-round use.

A set of fresh white organic cotton sheets can make your bed look more inviting than ever – you’ll just have to try to resist until bedtime. A snug new snow goose luxury down 13.5 tog duvet combined with a luxury mattress enhancer will make sure your bed is warm and cosy, no matter how far the temperature plunges.

Once the bed linen is in place, add a touch of luxury with a throw or a blanket – and nothing is softer than our lambswool angora blankets, which come in a range of colours. Go for winter white if you want to continue the crisp, clean effect from the bedding, or pick a soft shade such as mink or pale latte to add a touch of colour with a high class finish.

For those extra cold nights – or just because it’s a little treat – why not get a fabulously soft lamb’s wool hot water bottle? Our range of colours includes dove grey and biscuit, which will coordinate perfectly with your lambswool angora blanket. Tuck the hot water bottle under your duvet a short while before you get into bed to warm the cotton through, or place it under your pyjamas or nightdress so you’re warm as soon as you get into bed.

No matter what the size or design of your bedroom, a few simple touches like these can help you to make it a real haven from the elements so you always have somewhere to rest and relax, ready to face whatever the winter throws at you.

Lambswool and Angora Throws for a touch of Spring and Summer Luxury

Sumptuous and simply gorgeous to touch, these exquisite throws provide the finishing touch and a splash of colour to any room. Available in a range of colours, these throws make brilliant bed runners and also can be used as a travel throw or wrap.
